JP came to Pen-Y-Bryn Farm in May 2016 in time for our first Equine Assisted Mindfulness pilot program, and he’s been an important member of our team ever since. Coming from Dale Dunn, this draft-cross paint horse has a lot of experience as a trail horse and pack horse in the mountains, and he is solid. JP, who is about 21 years old, has been a great fit on the farm since he first got here. He has been a big part of our Equine Assisted Mindfulness program in 2016, Exercise Choke Apple with 4 Canadian Rangers Patrol Group and members of the Canadian Armed Forces Regular Force in 2016 and Exercise Northern Lights with 4 Canadian Rangers Patrol Group and members of the Australian Army’s North West Mobile Force in 2017, and he’s done an amazing job each time. JP is safe and kind, also patient but stubborn. He can be a great listener in the round pen, but he’ll make you work for it – then reward you. JP excels out on the trail because that is where he spent so much time, and he gives you confidence out there. JP loves to eat more than anything, but he also loves to be brushed and is happy to have a job.
